Crusade License Agreement
This agreement is between you and Kyle Chandler of Simi Valley, California ("we", "us"), the maker of Crusade. It covers the Crusade software, its updates, and the license keys and license files for it. By installing or using Crusade you agree to it (the installer asks you to accept it first). If you don't agree, don't install or use Crusade.
The free viewer
Anyone may download, install and use Crusade free of charge, on any number of computers, for any purpose, including at work. Without a license, Crusade is a viewer: it opens, shows, measures, renders, prints and exports files, and it can't create or change documents.
A license
A license is a one-time purchase. It never expires and has no subscription. With it you may:
- use the full Crusade, including editing and saving, for personal or commercial work;
- have it activated on up to 3 computers at a time; releasing a computer (Help ▸ License ▸ Release This Computer…) frees its place for another;
- use every version of Crusade we release, now and later.
A license bought by a person is for that person. A license bought by a business may be used by the people at that business, within the same 3 computers.
The license is a right to use Crusade. It doesn't sell you the software or any of its code. We keep all rights we don't give you here.
License checks
When you activate a license, Crusade contacts crusadecad.com once. After that:
- Normal mode (the default): about once a month, when Crusade checks for updates, it confirms the license is still valid for that computer. It needs a successful check at least once every 6 months. From 5 months it reminds you, and after 6 months it opens as the free viewer until a check succeeds. Your files always stay openable. If a computer in Normal mode is lost or broken, its place can be freed from your order page or by writing to us. If that computer comes back online, it stops being licensed at its next check.
- Offline only mode: Crusade never checks the license. A computer in this mode can only be released from itself, so release it before you reinstall it, replace it or give it away.
A license file works only on the computer it was made for.
What you may not do
- Share, sell, publish or give away your license key or license files, except by moving your own license between your own computers as described above.
- Get around, disable or fake the license checks, or help anyone else to.
- Rent, lease or resell Crusade, or sell it as part of a service where others use it in your place.
- Remove or change Crusade's copyright, license or attribution notices.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble Crusade, except where the law lets you anyway, and except for the open-source parts as section 6 says.
Your files
Your parts, assemblies, drawings and other files are yours. We claim no rights in them, and Crusade doesn't send them to us. Crusade's own file formats are documented so that your work isn't locked in.
Open-source parts
Crusade is built on open-source software, listed on crusadecad.com/licenses and in the THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES file installed with Crusade. Each of those parts is under its own license, and nothing in this agreement limits the rights those licenses give you. In particular, you may change the LGPL-licensed libraries (OpenCASCADE, Qt, LibRaw), replace them with your own builds, and reverse-engineer Crusade to the extent needed to debug such changes.
Privacy
What Crusade sends, and what we keep (nothing), is described on crusadecad.com/privacy. In short: the update check sends the app's name and version; license activation and checks send your license key, a scrambled code for the computer and the mode. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy under its own privacy policy.
Refunds
Before a refund, release your license from every computer it's on (Help ▸ License ▸ Release This Computer… on each). Once the store shows no computers left on it, we refund the purchase. If a computer is lost or broken, write to us and we'll free its place. Once a purchase is refunded or charged back, its license ends and its key stops working. Lemon Squeezy, which sells Crusade for us, may also give refunds under its own terms. Your local consumer law may give you more rights than this, and nothing here takes those away.
Engineering results are estimates
Crusade's analysis tools (SimpleSim, gear strength, the bolt calculator, Design Check, mass properties, cost and print estimates, and others) give quick estimates to help you design. They are not certified, they simplify reality, and they can be wrong. Check results independently, and have a qualified engineer and real tests confirm any design before you rely on it, above all where a failure could hurt someone or damage property. You are responsible for your designs and how they are used.
No warranty
To the extent the law allows, Crusade is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that it will be free of errors or that it will run without interruption. Some places don't allow these exclusions; where that is so, they apply only as far as allowed.
Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data or the cost of replacement goods, however caused. Our total liability for anything to do with Crusade is limited to what you paid for your license (nothing, for the free viewer). Some places don't allow these limits; where that is so, they apply only as far as allowed.
Ending
You may stop using Crusade at any time. If you break this agreement, your license ends and we may disable your key. Sections 4 to 6 and 9 to 13 continue after it ends.
Changes, updates and the law
- Updates are optional. A new version may come with an updated agreement, which then applies to that version. We won't take away a license you have already bought, and what your license covers is what this agreement said when you bought it: if a later agreement covers less (fewer computers, or fewer future versions), licenses bought before keep what they were sold with.
- You will follow the export and sanctions laws that apply to you, and won't use Crusade where those laws forbid it.
- This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any court case goes to the state or federal courts in Ventura County, California, unless your local consumer law says otherwise.
- If part of this agreement can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- This is the whole agreement about Crusade between you and us.
